Art Deco Tiffany and Co diamond and sapphire bracelet from the Great Gatsby era
Tiffany and Co was chosen as the jeweller to make the 1920s inspired jewellery for Baz Luhrmann’s production of Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic movie The Great Gatsby. This was a natural fit. The Fitzgeralds were Tiffany customers while the revered quality and reputation of the Tiffany jewellery fitted with the luxury old money lifestyle.
This very fine signed Art Deco bracelet was designed and made in the workshop of Tiffany and Co., New York located then at Fifth Avenue and 37th Street between 1926 and 1929. Like all Tiffany’s fine jewellery from this period the design is classically elegant, the workmanship exceptional and the gems the highest quality.
The bracelet is set in platinum, the metal of choice for fine jewellery of this period. Platinum allowed the setting to be delicate, crisply executed but strong. Fine Art Deco jewellery commonly featured a variety of gemstone cuts. The bracelet incorporates square cut diamonds and a range of old cut round diamonds. The old cut royal blue sapphires are outstanding. Rich colour, clarity and the perfect colour match of the seven graduated high quality sapphires make this an extraordinary set. Tiffany then as now was renowned for seeking out the highest quality gemstones for its special pieces.
A superb Art Deco bracelet of extraordinary history for today.
