An 18ct. yellow gold Art Nouveau locket bearing French hallmarks featuring a central flower and bud motif held over a green enamel background encircled by leaves to the outer surround. The locket opens to reveal a mirror to one side and vacant memorial segment to the other.

The symbolism of the heart has evolved over time in jewellery from the fifteenth century to be the most widely recognised symbol of love, romance and affection.

The witch’s heart, also spelt witches heart, with its distinctive curl of the tail, most often to the right, has evolved from early talismanic symbolism to signify the giver is "bewitched".
