ANTIQUE LOCKET OF ENAMEL AND SILVER

Make an appointment or enquire

Antique silver locket pendant with vertical ridges and applied finely engraved fleur de lys in relief, four to the front and a larger one to the reverse. The front is enhanced by an inset oval plate enamelled with the arms of Francois 1 depicting a salamander and his motto surrounded by a crown and fleur de lys, the royal symbol of the ruler of France. Francois 1 was the husband of Claude of France, daughter of Anne of Bretagne. The locket slides open, fastening at the base. The locket currently contains two bevelled mirrors with a surrounding fine rope vermeil edge.

We have left the locket with its attractive patina of age accentuating the ribbing and fleur de lys but it could be polished brighter if desired by the purchaser.
