Victorian sweetheart brooch/pendant is rich in romantic symbolism. It is profusely decorated with gold topped silver hearts, forget me nots and ”Best Wishes” on an ivy leaf symbolising love, marriage, fidelity,- all extravagantly piled on an anchor – a popular symbol of faithfulness and hope in Victorian times- as a delightfully exuberant protestation of love. It is so typical of Victorian sentimentality and so completely over the top it delights our modern sensibility.
